The Project: Whirlpool Data Center
ControlNET’s challenge was to integrate Whirlpool’s power subsystems, generators, automatic transfer switches, static transfer switches and life safety systems. Those in charge of Whirlpool’s facility operations felt that their current proprietary control system was unable to keep up with their integration needs at a time when the company had installed a high-end, high-speed computer network. They needed a building automation system that could take advantage of that with one seamless platform. The underlying technology that has made it possible is the Niagara platform developed by Virginia-based Tridium, Inc. The Whirlpool project is unique in that it demonstrates the benefits of open protocols and browser based front-end technologies across several building control disciplines and protocols.
